Just like your car needs constant maintenance, or your house, or your health, so does your spiritual life. No oil for the engine? It will seize up. No new shingles after 70 years? Leaks. No Bible, little church, very little prayer? Your life will fall into terrible disrepair. It is far better to stay on the right track with constant maintenance, than fall off and have to do a bunch of rebuilding. Nehemiah fixed the problems. He cleaned out the temple storeroom. He appointed faithful treasurers over the storehouse, stopped the buying and selling on the Sabbath, and cleansed the nation and priesthood of its compromisers. Let's make sure we are like Nehemiah.

Our Scripture reading was found in 1 Kings 4:1-34.
