Suffering for God's Glory and Shepherd the Flock - Tom McParlan
Peter alludes to the suffering that his readers will soon endure (the fiery trial) because of their faith in Christ. Peter distinguishes between suffering for the sake of Christ and suffering fro a person's own wrongdoing. He wants his readers to remember that there is no shame in suffering according to the will of God. Such suffering brings Him glory. Peter also speaks directly to elders. They have two responsibilities: to feed and to lead (shepherd the church). Leading involves protecting as well as providing guidance and care. One cannot help think of Jesus' final words to Peter, when He tells him to feed the flock and tend the sheep (John 21:15-17). This message is just as true for church leaders today.
