Jesus helps His disciples prepare for what is coming. The immediate need will be for the testing that comes when Jesus is betrayed and arrested. He prophesies that Peter will falter under the tempting hand of the Devil, but that he will be restored. Jesus encourages him by telling him that He is praying for him. The secondary need is that the disciples will be left without Jesus and His special care of them in their journeys. They will have to make use of normal means to care for themselves: money, supplies, even tools for self-defense and other necessary activities.
