From the Pulpit...

This passage has to do with being at home or away with respect to the human spirit's location relative to the human body. But what is Paul saying about being at home or away? He states that he is certain about being in one or the other of these two states (with no other possibilities). He expresses his desire to be with the Lord. And he gives his life goal regardless of what state he finds himself in, namely to please the Lord.
