James wrote this pastoral letter to Jewish Christians scattered outside of Israel to encourage them to live with a credible Christian testimony so as to demonstrate true faith rather than mere lip-service to Jesus. James tells his readers and us that good works are evidence of real faith. A lack of good works is evidence of spurious faith.
