From the Pulpit...

The Corinthians had been putting Paul to the test, but now Paul is turning the tables and putting them to the test. They wanted proof that Christ is working in Paul; Paul wanted proof that Christ was in them too! And so it should be for us—instead of looking at everyone else and comparing ourselves to them (10:12) we ought to be measuring ourselves by the ruler of God’s Word, the gospel, sound doctrine, good holy practice, the presence of Christ in our midst. Although for Christians the expected outcome of the examination is a good result, it is still imperative that we "examine ourselves" to be sure that we are in the faith, and that Christ is in us.
