Baptism as Identification
This short message was delivered before the church remembered the Lord at His Table on Sunday evening. In this message, we visit every passage that speaks of baptism "eis" (into or because of). We showed that in every case where baptism "eis" is used with a metaphorical object--not into water, for example, but into Christ or the body of Christ, etc.--it has a meaning consistent with the idea of association or union or identification. Baptism does not cause forgiveness of sins (Mark 1:4, Acts 2:38). It demonstrates that one has been forgiven; it identifies them with repentance.
