From the Pulpit...

These wise men were pagans from the lands of the East and they came in search of King Jesus. Now we see in Matthew Ch. 1 that it begins with the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham. To every Jew who valued their genealogy it was extremely important. Matthew presents both the son of Abraham and the son of David, who was considered the "Great King". We see through the genealogy where Matthew proclaims Christ as King, as sovereign , who came to reign and to rule. If the Jews would have recognized that things what have been much different. However, the Jews persecuted their own King. The wise men not only came in search of a King, but to worship the King.
